Middle Education
Post-Baccalaurate Entry Option
This program is designed for individuals who have already earned a bachelor's and/or master's degree in an appropriate academic area from an accredited college of university (including JMU) and wish to be licensed to teach at the middle school level (grades 6-8).
Admission Criteria
To be fully admitted to the M.A.T. degree program as post-baccalaureate candidates, applicants must:
- Have an undergraduate GPA of 2.50 or above
- Satisfy all requirements for admission to teacher education, including obtaining a passing score on Praxis I
- Have a passing score on Praxis II in your two areas of specialization (i.e. Middle School Math, Middle School Social Studies, etc.)
- Complete all content area requirements for the IDLS undergraduate major or their equivalents, as identified by program faculty upon review of candidates' academic record
- Satisfy all requirements for admission to the College of Graduate and Outreach Programs, including
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college/university, and
- Graduate Record Examination or Miller Analogy Test (contact the department head for specific concentration requirements) scores at the 25th percentile or above
